A park that is genuinely walkable to the beach is a completely different experience than one where you need to drive and find parking every time you want to see the water.

This matters more than most people realize until they are trying to back a 40-foot fifth wheel into a tight spot with trees on both sides.

If you have a large rig, look for parks that specifically offer pull-through sites. Pull-through means you drive in from one end and exit from the other — no backing required.

Also ask about site length and width. A site that fits a 30-foot Class C may not accommodate a 45-foot Class A with slide-outs.

If you are a contractor, winter Texan, or snowbird, you need a park that welcomes extended stays and offers reasonable monthly rates.

Not all parks do. Some are set up primarily for short-term vacation travelers and do not accommodate long-term guests well.

Look for parks that explicitly offer monthly rates, have stable long-term residents, and are located near employment centers or year-round attractions.

If you are traveling with a dog, confirm the pet policy before you book. Some parks have breed restrictions, size limits, or extra fees.

The Texas Gulf Coast is a great destination for dogs — beaches, open spaces, and mild weather most of the year. Find a park that actually welcomes your pet.

Check Google reviews, RoverPass, and RV forums before booking. Look for patterns — not just the star rating.

A park with 4.0+ stars and consistent comments about cleanliness, friendly management, and good hookups is a reliable choice. A park with a lot of complaints about electrical problems, poor maintenance, or unresponsive management is a red flag regardless of the star count.

The Texas Gulf Coast has several distinct areas worth knowing about:

Surfside Beach / Freeport area — Quieter, less crowded, and more affordable than Galveston. Close to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge, world-class fishing, and the Intracoastal Waterway. About 60 miles south of Houston.

Galveston Island — More developed, more tourist infrastructure, higher prices. Good for families who want attractions. Can get crowded in summer.

Rockport / Aransas Pass — Known for birding (Whooping Cranes), fishing, and a laid-back coastal vibe. Further from Houston.

Port Aransas — Popular beach town on Mustang Island. Good surf, good fishing, busy in summer.

South Padre Island — The southernmost tip of the Texas coast. Warm water, good birding, popular with spring breakers.

For RVers who want a genuine beach experience without the Galveston crowds and prices, Surfside Beach is hard to beat.

The beach is uncrowded. The fishing is excellent. The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is one of the best birding destinations in North America. And the drive from Houston is under 90 minutes.
