The phrase "full hookups" appears in almost every RV park listing — but what it actually means, and what quality looks like, varies considerably from one park to the next. If you are planning an extended stay in Texas, understanding what to look for before you book can save you a lot of frustration.

Here is a practical breakdown of what full hookups means, what questions to ask, and what separates a good RV park from a great one.

A full hookup RV site provides three connections at your pad:

1. Electric — Shore power connection to run your RV's systems without a generator
2. Water — Fresh water connection to your RV's water inlet
3. Sewer — Waste connection so you do not need to use a dump station

A site with only electric and water (no sewer) is a partial hookup. A site with only electric is sometimes called a "dry camping with electric" site. Full hookups means all three are present at your specific site.

Electric service is where the most variation exists between RV parks.

30-amp service provides 3,600 watts of power — enough for most older or smaller RVs with a single air conditioner and standard appliances.

50-amp service provides 12,000 watts — enough for large RVs with multiple air conditioners, electric heating, and high-draw appliances running simultaneously.

If you have a large Class A or Class C motorhome, a fifth wheel, or any RV with dual air conditioners, you need 50-amp service for comfortable operation. Running a 50-amp RV on 30-amp service means managing your power carefully and potentially tripping breakers.

Water hookup sounds simple, but pressure and quality matter.

Pressure: RV water systems are designed for 40–60 PSI. Many RV parks deliver higher pressure, which can damage your RV's plumbing. A water pressure regulator (available at any RV supply store for under $20) is essential — use one every time you connect to shore water.

Quality: Gulf Coast water is safe but can have a noticeable taste and odor from treatment chemicals. Many long-term RV guests use an inline water filter at the hookup for drinking water quality. A simple carbon filter makes a significant difference.

What to ask: Is water included in the site rate, or metered separately? (Most parks include water in the site rate.)

A sewer hookup at your pad is one of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades over partial hookups. You can drain your tanks whenever you need to rather than waiting for a dump station.

What to look for:

• A 3-inch sewer inlet at the site (standard for most RVs)
• A secure connection point — not just a pipe sticking out of the ground
• Adequate distance from your RV's sewer outlet (a standard 10-foot sewer hose should reach)

What to ask: Is the sewer connection at the site, or is there a shared dump station? (Full hookups means at-site sewer.)

Wi-Fi is listed as an amenity at most RV parks, but quality varies enormously. Resort-wide Wi-Fi serving dozens or hundreds of RVs is rarely fast enough for streaming or video calls — it is better thought of as a convenience for light use (email, browsing) rather than a primary internet connection.

For reliable internet during a long-term stay, a cellular hotspot from Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile is the standard solution for most RVers. Starlink satellite internet has become increasingly popular and works well in the Gulf Coast area.

What to ask: Is Wi-Fi included? What is the typical speed? (Honest parks will tell you it is basic.)

For stays longer than a few days, on-site laundry is a significant convenience. Look for:

• Adequate number of machines for the park's size
• Clean, well-maintained facilities
• Reasonable coin or card pricing

What to ask: How many washers and dryers? Are they coin-operated or card?

Site dimensions matter, especially for larger rigs.

Length: Pull-through sites accommodate longer rigs without requiring backing in. Back-in sites are more common and typically fine for rigs up to 40 feet with some maneuvering room.

Width: Slide-outs require clearance on both sides. A site that looks adequate on paper may be tight with slides extended.

Pad surface: Concrete pads are the premium option — level, stable, and easy to keep clean. Gravel pads are common and functional. Grass or dirt pads can become muddy in rain.

What to ask: What is the maximum rig length for available sites? Are pull-throughs available? What is the pad surface?
